If you had carefully read the update above for January 22, 2009, you would have taken note of the following paragraph:
President Obama signed executive orders on January 22, 2009, directing the Central Intelligence Agency to shut what remains of its network of secret prisons and ordering the closing of the Guantánamo detention camp within a year and review every detainee for disposition.
When we rated this promise as being honored (not kept) we took Obama's executive order as evidence that he had honored his promise; however, if you read the headline at the top of this page you will see that we clearly state that he is in the process of "keeping" this promise, even though the prison is not yet closed.
If, for whatever reason, Quantanamo is not closed by January 22, 2010, we will consider this promise "Broken," and will change its rating on our Wiki accordingly. Thanks for your comments.

Kathleen is absolutely right! President Obama may be said to be working on fulfilling this promise, but there is no way that it should be considered as Honored in full. I suggest that the Wiki team at Obama Watchers change its rating from Honored to "In the Works." When (and if) he actually shuts it down and closes it, then you can change it to "Honored."

My husband is terminally ill. To make ends meet I apparently have to be terminally ill myself or lose my home for which I am presently working 3 jobs (to keep a roof over my childrens' head during this crisis) to prevent our being foreclosed upon. Unfortunately, and this is being said sarcastically, I am being punished for having insurance to meet our medical bills. I am also being punished for not taking advantage of government programs for which others use so freely. Tell me where the justice is in all of this? I guess I'm like George Baily in It's a Wonderful Life when he's told that he's worth "more dead than alive." Thank God for a system which seems to care so much for a hard working citizen.

President Obama's projected deficit is frightening. Looking at the GDP previous to the Great Depression and during it, we see our country is parallel to that same situation. With expected deficit figures in the trillions, can we believe by government grants, government loans, and government borrowing, this will actually help our economy? I remember when the president assured us he would cut government spending by 10%, yet he has quadrupled the spending in the last six months! Normally I would look towards the future in anticipation of this ten percent decrease, yet the projections show no alternative to this spending lacking sufficient evidence it will ever decrease.

From a humanitarian perspective, our fellow human beings, who migrate to support their families, continue to suffer at the hands of immigration policies that separate them from family members and drive them into remote parts of the American desert, sometimes to their deaths. This suffering should not continue.
Now is the time to address this pressing humanitarian issue which affects so many lives and undermines basic human dignity. Our society should no longer tolerate a status quo that perpetuates a permanent underclass of persons and benefits from their labor without offering them legal protections.

Hi,
I was hopeful that once elected President Obama would add to the stimulus package his promise to have an elimination of penalties on withdrawals from retirement plans, including IRAs. Under one plan, 15 percent of the balance up to $10,000 would qualify for penalty-free withdrawals. You would still owe federal and state income tax on the amount withdrawn, but you would avoid the 10 percent early withdrawal penalty.
Where can we shout out that we need some relief! I want to tell the President how much I need my 401k money! I just got laid off and I have two kids in college, I am 51 years old in a depressed job market. Things are going from bad to worse and I need some relief! I see everyone else getting relief all around me. It seems like every day I listen to the news and there is another Billion going out to help big organizations and governments but not the regular Joe's like me or Joe the plumber! All I am asking for is the ability to use my 401k money without a penalty! It's my own money and I am not asking for a bailout - I want to use my money to keep me out of the poor house!

I am a victim of predatory lending which consumed my savings, retirement, children's educational funds and almost cost me my home. For the past 4 years I have written the President, local senators, congressmen, and govenors, as well as contacted Hope Now Alliance, NACA, Maryland State DLLR and the Maryland Insurance Administration. I had temporary legal representation, however my the finacial hardship this ordeal has placed upon me, rendered me unable to afford continued legal counsel. I have filed a court complaint before the statutes of limitations expired, however without legal counsel I am unsure if I could relay all that is necessary in a court of law to resolve this crisis in my favor. My appraisal fraud is linked directly to my lender in some way, however I opted to begin with the appraisal company since it was so openly noted for fraud. The appraisal company's grossly inflated appraisals by 150,000 dollars changed the whole profile of my construction to permanent loan, costing me 40,000 dollars out of pocket, over double the quoted mortgage payment, destruction of my good credit status and total exhaustion of all savings. The appraisal company filed a Consent Order with the DLLR which is more or less an admission of wrong doing. They received a penalty which did not include restitution to the homeowner as the DLLR does not have jurisdiction for those mandates. I contacted the Maryland Insurance Administration in an effor to pressure the appraisal company's insurance company, however I just learned the appraiser did not advise the insurance company of the incident before the statutes of limitations so they are not responsible for restitution. Everyone who has reviewed my documents has concurred that fradulent practices were indeed conducted, however I have not been able to find anyone who can assist me reaching justice. I would appreicate any assistance you can offer me. My husband is a US Veteran however our home is not under a VA loan.

BEWARE: If the president of the United States hates one—for whatever reasons—he can continuously criminally stalk one to the point that one cannot get away from it, and one ultimately commits suicide in desperation to escape. He can murder people in this way.
Bush is getting away with his murder of Margie Schoedinger—with no sheriff, prosecutor, or court willing to uphold the rule of law.
Bush’s method of murdering Margie Schoedinger cannot exist in a vacuum: he must have murdered other people in the same way.

sorry to sound disagreeable, but Obama has already denied his white heritage by claiming to be 'african american'. If he wasn't playing the race card, he would consider himself American. Period. And to claim he will bring the races together, have you forgotten his church of 20 years, lead by a bigoted preacher who hates white America? And to be married to a woman who has never been proud of her country? President Obama scares me, not because he's black (I would have put Colin Powel in the white house) but because he is putting policies in place that do not have America's best interest at heart.
