I'm beginning to believe Obama's oft-stated commitment to the LGBT community may have been purely political. Why in the world would he select an outright bigot like Rick Warren to deliver his inaugural invocation?
Based on his own statements, Warren does not believe that lesbian and gay people really exist. He views us as people who "think they are smarter than God" and who choose "to disobey God's sexual instructions." In other words, he sees us as behaviorally disordered sinners, and has even gone beyond that to equate our relationships with the criminally abusive perversions of incest and pedophilia.
For Obama's to select Warren as a spiritual representative for the entire nation is misguided at best, and just plain boneheaded. Choosing Rick Warren amounts to an act of spiritual violence against lesbian and gay Americans, and has created an aura of mistrust that could have been easily avoided.
