Create White House Team to Improve Federal Programs and Eliminate Waste

Promise Honored President Obama is keeping the following promise:

"Barack Obama and Joe Biden will create a focused team within the White House that will work with agency leaders and the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to improve results and outcomes for federal government programs while eliminating waste and inefficiency."— Obama's "The Change We Need In Washington"

Killefer Withdraws As CPO Pick

President Obama's newly appointed Chief Performance Officer Nancy Killefer withdrew from consideration as the nation's first CPO. In her letter to the president she cited tax problems with the District of Columbia. Her resignation does not affect our belief that Preident is keeping this promise. We will, however, be keeping an eye on the situation to see what Obama does to further the inplementation of this promise.

Obama Fills New White House Position

Obama created a new position, chief performance officer, to cut government waste and inefficiency. Appointee Nancy Killefer is also designated deputy director for management with the White House Office of Management and Budget.

"During the campaign, I said that we must scour this budget line by line, eliminating what we don't need or what doesn't work, and improving the things that do," Obama said, "Working with Peter Orszag and Rob Nabors at the Office of Management and Budget, Nancy Killefer is uniquely qualified to lead that effort."

Jim Flyzik, who worked under Killefer in the Clinton Treasury Department, said she will use information technology as an executive tool to improve government programs and efficiently route taxpayer money.
